In Memoriam Greta 1992 - 2003
Greta came into our lives in December, 1997 from a New Hampshire track where her racing name was Loretta. She quickly exhibited her independent will, refusing to be crated by howling continually until we freed her from her "prison." Greta bonded with us right away, and was very much a daddy's girl. When going for walks, she would make it clear that she wanted to walk with Joe.

Truly a born racer, Greta loved to sprint at full speed whenever she had the chance. She had had a lengthy racing career and remained determined to lead the pack any time she had an opportunity for a group run.

Greta was the smallest of our greyhounds, but also the smartest. When one dog approached us for attention, the others would usually follow. Kelly and Trooper would shoulder Greta away, but she would quickly maneuver to insert herself between us and the other hounds. She would try various means to move one of the others out of the pillow she coveted at the moment. Sometimes she would try staring them down. At other times she would bark and rush the door as if she had heard something, then calmly walk away and sit down on the vacated pillow as the other dogs followed her lead to the door.

Events that brought her happiness were celebrated with much tossing and catching a fluffy toy. These included going for walks or car rides, and of course mealtimes.

We lost Greta on October 1, 2003. She was special, and she is sorely missed.
